    FABRICATION OF WATER PUMP USING ADJUSTABLE STROKE MECHANISM


    Abstract

    Normally Water pumps use impeller pump. But for lengthy pipes, we use compressor water pump. In this compressor, the stroke length is constant and can not be adjusted. So a particular amount of water can be drawn using this pumps. In this project we use an adjustable stroke mechanism in which the stroke length can be adjusted for adjusting the amount of water. This consists of two cam wheels, levers, cylinder, piston, foot valve, hose etc. The two cam wheels are fixed with frames. The connecting rods of the two cam wheels are connected with a tilting lever so that when the two cams are rotated, the tilting frame will be moving up and down with respect to its center. The piston is connected with the center rod of the tilting lever. The center rod moves up and down through a guide. A single gear motor operates the two cam to rotate in same direction. When the gear motor is switched on, the cams operate the center rod to move up and down. The position of the two cams can be adjusted to adjust the stroke length of the piston. With the suction pipe, a foot valve is connected. To get maximum water, we can adjust the stroke length to maximum.
