    DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF AUTO EXTENDING BUMPER


    Abstract

    In four wheelers, even though the driver is very careful and also the vehicle is parked in safety areas, sometimes other vehicles may dash unnecessarily. This project is developed for the users to prevent unnecessary damage using automatic Bumper. An automatic bumper is connected in front of the vehicle. It has an inbuilt IR transmitter and receiver on the front side. The transmitter transmits IR signals. If there is no obstacles in front, the IR signals will not be reflected and if any obstacles very close to the front side, the rays are blocked by the obstacle and the reflected signal reaches the receiver. Thus when any vehicles come near the vehicle, the sensor sends signal to the microcontroller. The micro controller analyses the signal and operates a motor with gear setup and rack and pinion setup to move the bumper towards front. This keeps the vehicle from unnecessary damage.
