AIR COOLER USING WASTE HEAT OF AUTOMOBILE

    Abstract

In automobiles, the engine heat is undesirable and it is totally a waste energy. This energy can be converted into desired energy like cooling energy, electric energy etc. The thermoelectric effect is the direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage and vice versa via a thermocouple. A thermoelectric device creates voltage when there is a different temperature on each side. Conversely, when a voltage is applied to it, it creates a temperature difference. Here Peltier element is used as thermocouple. When one end of the thermocouple is heated, the other end gets cooled and simultaneously a voltage is developed in the terminals. At the top of the peltier element, an aluminium plate is placed & surrounded by thermocol. Inside the thermocol box, a blower is fixed. The blower will send the cool air inside the thermocol box through the slits. When the bottom end of the thermocouple is heated due to the engine heat, the aluminium plate at the top of the thermocouple is considerably cooled and therefore the air inside the thermocol box is cooled. The cooled air is sent out by the blower through the slit.
