FABRICATION OF SHAFT DRIVE BICYCLE

Abstract

Normally, Bicycle is operated through pedal and chain drive. In chain drive process, there is a considerable amount of mechanical loss. To avoid this we introduce a new technology using shaft driven bicycle. A shaft driven bicycle is a chainless bicycle that uses a drive shaft instead of a chain drive to transmit power from the pedals to the wheel. It consists of two set of bevel gears. The first set is connected with the pedal. When the pedal is operated, the, the driver bevel gear is rotated with the shaft and it drives the driven bevel gear which transmits the rotation in perpendicular direction. The other set of bevel gears are connected with the wheel. The driven bevel gear of the first set and the driver bevel gear of the second set are inter connected through a rod. Thus when the pedal is operated, the wheel of the bicycle is rotated without the help of the chain.
