    UNDERGROUND CABLE FAULT DETECTION USING GSM


    Abstract

    Cables were made to lay overhead & currently underground cables are used which is superior to earlier method. Because the underground cable is not affected by any adverse weather condition such as storm, snow, heavy rainfall as well as pollution. But when any fault occurs in cable, then it is difficult to locate fault. So we will move to find the exact location of fault. This project proposes fault location model for underground power cable using microcontroller. The aim of this project is to determine the location of underground cable fault. When any fault like short circuit occurs, voltage drop will vary depending on the length of fault in cable, since the current varies. The main components used in this project is fault sensor, microcontroller, LCD display and GSM. The fault sensor senses the fault in the underground cable and sends signal to the microcontroller. This microcontroller generates a control signal and sends to the LCD display which displays the location of the fault. The GSM sends message to the higher officials regarding the fault through USART.
